Madame Song: A Life in Art and Fashion
Exhibition catalogue of M+ Museum exhibition titled "Madame Song: Pioneering Art and Fashion in China" in July 2023 to April 2024.
Publisher: Thames & Hudson
Author: Pi Li
ISBN: 9780500966037
Excerpts from the book:
"But T'ang was like an itinerant bard or poet, borne on the currents of the world by a Daoist attitude, meeting life's ups and downs with equanimity. As a gay man, he was not responsible for pleasing his parents by carrying on the family line, and instead saw art-making as his destiny. For the rest of his life, he kept a studio in Paris that was so small and basic it lacked its own bathroom. He spent most of his time travelling from place to place, staying in the homes of various friends, and toting his favourite portfolio. This man who appeared to have no possessions in fact possessed the entire world."

Radiocarbon - Bomb 14C on paper and detection of the forged paintings of T’ang Haywen
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 15 October 2019
Article content:
The bomb-peak signal preserved in the Arches® cotton paper was used to detect art forgeries imitating the work of Chinese artist T’ang Haywen (1927–1991). The dating of seven legitimate T’ang Haywen art pieces showed that the timing of the paper production was consistent with the artist’s use of Arches® paper starting in the early 1980s. The measured F14C of the paper from the 14 suspected forged paintings shows that the support material was produced in the last decade (2008–2011), therefore the art pieces could not be genuine T’ang Haywen works.

An Incomplete Journey: the Story of Haywen
Auction catalogue by Sotheby’s Hong Kong, 2015
Excerpts from the book:
"Haywen's lilting brush moves a variety of colors freely about the paper, and the rich combination of hues weaves a natural tapestry. Each and every brushstroke possesses its own significance and effect. In these three artworks we see spring flowers abloom in a meadow, the heat of the summer sun reflected off low brick buildings in a village lane, and an autumn cityscape viewed as if from a passing train. Each painting is impossibly rich, offering the viewer fertile and moving images, as well as the powerful emotions brimming deep within the artist's heart."

T’ANG HAYWEN, INKS & WATERCOLOURS
Exhibition catalogue at Yishu 8, Beijing, China, 2011
Publisher: Yishu 8, Beijing, China
Language: Chinese, English and French
Excerpts from the book:
"The water, ink and watercolour he spreads on paper are tamed to offer a space belonging to each spectator. T'ang obliterates himself; he gives us not something to see, but rather something to reflect upon, a way to look into ourselves and remember through the transparent mirror of his painting."
- Philippe Koutouzis
"Painter of the instant, he is one of the great mystics he opens on paper a new path on which, transparent, invisible, he may not be seen. However, he was no longer satisfied with embracing reality in order to transcribe it. He constructed a very personal metaphorical realm. This process, surging from the depths of his being, was embodied in poetic transpositions worthy of the greatest creators of the 20th century."
